Boston Celtics: NBA Champions

The Boston Celtics are the 2007-2008 NBA Champions! That has such a nice ring to it and it took a number of yers, but last night the Celtics showed that by embracing the 'Team' mentality, they could succeed and bring the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy to Boston after a 22-year hiatus.

The Celtics had a swagger and a confidence from the start of the game and it was nice, for a change, to see them get a lead and not take their foot off the gas pedal. Just when Celtics fans were getting nervous with a 10-point lead, Paul Pierce decided that it was time to shut the door on th Lakers.

It seemed as if Kobe lost his steam come the 2nd quarter and there was no other Laker that stepped-up, even though, at times, it appeared that Derek Fisher was going to be the savior. Such was not the case and eventually the Lakers looked out of place and Coach Phil Jackson tried his best to let his team play through the mounting Celtics lead.

Boston has seen it's share of Championship celebrations-- the New England Patriots in 2001, 2003 and 2004, the Boston Red Sox, even though I don't root for them(I'm a Yankees fan), in 2004 and 2007 and now the Boston Celtics!

Throughout this entire series, I said that Danny Ainge looks like the worlds smartest General Manager and he is, but the Celtics must also send a championship ring to Kevin McHale, not for his years of playing in Boston but for agreeing to trade Kevin Garnett to the Celtics. I think he wears a size 13 ring Danny.

Congratulations to the Celtics players, the entire organization, the owners and especially to Doc Rivers who is now able to touch the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy!
