Education: Worcester CEO Benefit Dinner

Earlier today, I received the following information regarding an Education Benefit Dinner that the Worcester CEO (The Coalition for Educated Options) is planning for Friday, February 26th from 5-8:30 PM at Clark University.

The dinner, sponsored by the Democrats of Clark University, is to raise educational funds for Salifu Kamara, a college Freshman, and native of Sierra Leone, to afford attending Clark University (MA).

If you aren't able to attend the benefit dinner, the Worcester CEO is accepting donations. Please contact David LeBoeuf at 508-579-6727, or send email to

Happy Friday!

Dear Friends,

I want to personally extend an invitation to the Equal Access to Education Benefit Dinner an event to honor those in our city who have made a commitment to education. Most importantly, this event is a benefit dinner for a close friend of mine, Salifu Kamara. Salifu is a freshman at Clark University originally from Sierra Leone. Salifu is one of the strongest individuals i have met- he was a former child soldier who has used the tragedies in his past to give others hope. Unfortunately his dream of studying in the United States is in jeopardy because he does not have enough money to cover his living expenses. Money should never be a deterrent to someone pursuing their dream. All of us in this nation believe that access to education should be fair and open to everyone. Financial barriers create economic segregation and while I personally believe there needs to be intense discussion about the educational achievement gap and financial roadblocks to success, this is an opportunity for Worcester as a community to support our ideas but also honor our educators

The Benefit Dinner will also be issuing four awards to individuals in the community who have gone the extra mile to support education. The organization sponsoring the event is currently asking for nominations. The aim is to honor those among us who are on the front-lines and who show passion, dedication, and resolve. No act is too small not to be considered for the award.

The event is being sponsored by the Democrats of Clark University but this is in absolutely no way a partisan event. Attached you will find the invitation, nomination form. and link to the event on Facebook.

I hope you will consider planning on attending and donating to this worthy cause. Too often do we as a society take for granted the fundamental rights we enjoy and how the smallest thing can make a difference in an individual's life.

Regards,

-David
