The Great Divide

I'm not sure when my parents and family would say that I grew up, but it would be at an early age.

Although someone may look at me or even speak to me, one would assume that I'm old than my age, but that's what happens when one assumes.

The recent playground debate, that's still be discussed, and some would say being "argued" about, is a debate that may divide more people and a community than one may expect.

The divide comes in the form of a DPW Commissioner, Robert Moylan, Jr., and a Councilor, Paul Clancy, Jr., that promised a community that an expanding compost site would be void of odor and impact on them, but such has NOT been the case.

The compost site was met with resistance, but not enough due to neighborhood apathy. Maybe that's the secret with becoming a "power-broker" in the City of Worcester; set up shop in the City, tell people what they want to hear while advancing one's own agenda. Oh, wait a minute! That's already taking place.

Maybe the residents need to be weaned from the "pacifiers", and learn to not accept the" same old, same old".

While there are some people that are advocating for the playground at Vernon Hill School (pictured above) "By Any Means Necessary", some fail to recognize that the City is not out-of-the-woods when it comes to the budget & particularly in upcoming fiscal years 2009 and 2010.

As written in the comments section of Clive McFarlane's opinion piece, I strongly recommend Commissioner Moylan and Councilman Clancy to hold an "open forum" to discuss the playground & how the money should be spent.

Trust me, there are some very good alternatives for spending $300k, and they need to be considered.

A leader's clear voice

Bill Cosby, a long-standing advocate for parents to be parents, and get into the business of dealing with family issues with tough love was on "Meet The Press" on Sunday. Mr. Cosby has received alot of feedback from the Black community for the book he co-authored, "Come on, People", with Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint.

Take a look at the interview where Mr. Cosby touches on gangsta rap, drugs, youth and raising children.

New England Flavor

Things are looking very fall-like in Worcester, and after a relatively dry autumn, that quickly changed last week with alot of rain, but that has subsided, thank God.

As we continue to look at the municipal elections, it's becoming more clear that there are going to be some familiar faces sitting in City Council seats. Is this something to get excited about, to the point of screaming out loud, or do we do our best impression of Mcauley Culkin in "Home Alone"?

Looking at Mayor Lukes's campaign, it's not hard to read into it that she's not trying very hard to be the Mayor of the City of Worcester. By all accounts, it appears that Konnie enjoys being involved with city politics, but can do without the role & title of being mayor. It's sad because I believe that Konnie wants to be innovative, but she is stifled and has been squeezed by the "boys".

Let's take a look at Gary Rosen's campaign. Here's a man that has built a reputation as an educator & a man that knows how to "press the flesh". Not one to knock his hustle, but it's baffling that Mr. Rosen has built his campaign around being seen on street corners holding his sign, smiling and waving. Pretty amazing, right?

With voter turnout for the Primary Election at 14.58%, it does appear that we're on the road to the same old destination, with the same old passengers. Boy this ride is downright boring.
