Say it LOUD!

When I received this letter from Virginia Ryan, I just had to share it! And who said the pen wasn't mightier than the sword? (Oh, wait, that was Mayor Lukes.)

From Virginia Ryan, Chair, of Coalition of Worcester Retirees

To : Worcester city retirees (AKA, THUGS) and to all future thugs (AKA, present city employees)

Date: October 29, 2009

We need you to make phone calls Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm at NAGE office located at 70 Elm Street (corner of West St.). Adequate parking in the rear. Six phone lines available. Bring your cell phones with you in case more THUGS show up. Just walk-in and volunteer you THUGS and future THUGS.

We can make a difference on November 3rd only if YOU WALK THE WALK and show up to make calls.

DO YOUR MATH: Workers United is supporting 7 candidates including Kola Akindele. Who is he? I never heard of him either but I met with him after the Workers United interviews and am thoroughly impressed with him and his parents. I have changed my calendar this week to promote Koka Kola and you should too. I know Koka Kola. He is the “ real thing.” I know Grace Ross is the “real thing.” I know all endorsed WORKERS UNITED candidates are the real thing.

SECTION 19: Councilor Joe Petty made a motion to “request” that the city manager cap retiree health insurance premiums at 25% on October 6, 2009. Judy Roy, former coalition spokesperson stated at a council meeting in 2007 prior to adoption of Section 18, “WE MAY BE OLD, BUT WE AREN’T STUPID.” Councilor Joe Petty thinks we are STUPID.

A request means NOTHING. Only Section 19 will give retirees a seat at the negotiating table on health insurance.

Only Section 19 will save the city of Worcester millions of dollars as it has in other MA communities.

Racial Divide

When relatives in Louisiana told me about the Just of the Peace that
was denying a couple a marriage license because they're an interracial
couple, it really got under my skin. OK, I'll be honest here, I was
pissed and used a few choice expletives for the much needed
exclamation point.

You see, my father was born and raised in Louisiana, specifically New
Orleans, and I lived in New Orleans too for a few years.

When Keith Bardwell stated that,"I'm not a racist. I just don't
believe in mixing the races that way", the first thing that I thought
was anyone that has to start their statement with"I'm not a racist" is
full of it. Similarily, if someone begins a conversation with
"truthfully speaking"; you know the lie is coming right after those
words.

While a Justice of the Peace is a quasi-judge and has jurisdiction
over certain aspects of the law, this is one in which Keith Bardwell
overstepped the boundaries.

I wonder what the couple has done on the weeks since Mr. Bardwell's
decision and subsequent statements? I hope they chose to head to Las
Vegas, because as we know, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and
they like their coffee with a cream and sugar!

WYSL: Soccer registration

The fall soccer season is coming to an end, but that doesn't mean you
can't start planning for the spring 2010 season.

Here's some information about two in-person registration nights, one
being TONIGHT at the Worcester Public Library beginning at 6 pm until
8:30 pm.

I coach two teams and to see kids learning the game, having fun and
getting exercise, it is the highlight of my week.

Elections: Voting

When it's time to vote next week, I wonder if many people enter the
booth already knowing who they're voting for?

I'm the type of voter that typically does, but this year I've, so-
called, "left the door open". Not that I don't know what the
candidates's platforms are, rather I want to see if anyone digs deep
and truly states what they plan to do and what can be changed, within
reason, of course.

In speaking with some people this weekend, many had already made up
their mind and knew who they were casting their votes for. I
appreaciate their feavor and wondered, aloud, why. Some could go on
for days on what the candidate would bring to the table, whole others
simply stated that they were voting for a particular candidate because
of the candidate's "name recognition". Interesting in that water-
cooler conversations still take place (watch out for that H1N1 and use
a cup) and people are still influenced by their peers and word-of-
mouth-marketing.

No-Wiggle 'Toine

When I read the headline about former-Celtics player, Antoine Walker, I knew what the story was about before I read it.

The 'Toine-Wiggle has been sidelined, but is there a silver-lining in this story? We'll have to wait and see.
