Don't forget to turn off the lights when you leave

Governor Patrick: Mr. Doughboy?

Word around Boston is that Governor Deval Patrick has a new nickname,
and it's Doughboy.

I guess folks feel that he's going to be a one-term Governor and will
be back dealing with the "money men".

Stay tuned!

Change is inevitable, except from vending machines

Thank goodness Tropicana changed their tops back to the traditional
tops.

These plastic, pull-tab-style tops only lasted for a short while, and
I was glad to see them go.

With the recent freeze that took place in Florida, we cam expect the
price of orange juice to increase in the coming months. So, if you see
juice on sale at your Price Chopper, Shaw's or Stop & Shop, please be
a good neighbor and send me an email to WorcesterIsMAJOR@gmail.com or
let me know via Twitter at http://Twitter.com/worcismajor.

Thank you!

Gumby inspired Hip Hop

I heard the news that Gumby creator, Art Clokey, died last week and I
immediately thought of the claymation Gumby and Pokey show, but I also
recalled a hairstyle that ran rampant in the late-80s and early '90s.

Some folks might be old enough to remember Gumby on television or even
"Davey and Goliath", a series that spread Lutheran messages. If not,
Google it or look for videos on YouTube.com.

The cherry on the Sunday for me, was the haircut that was inspired by
the Gumby character that many males in 1988 through 1992 wore.

The most famous Gumby-wearing singer was none other than Boston's
Bobby Brown, of the group New Edition.

Yes, there were other rappers or Hip Hop socialites that wore a Gumby,
but it was Bobby Brown that rocked it with conviction and let the
world know in 1988 that it was "My Prerogative".

The hairstyle coupled with the fashions from the early '90s will
forever leave their stamp on that decade and I always find it funny
when a fashion trend resurfaces and the kids adopt it.

I know now what my parents meant when they said, "what goes around,
comes around."

Rest in peace Art Clokey.

Around the Block

If you turn on CNN or any world news news channel, you'd think that there is no other news to report than the comments made by Senator Harry Reid or former baseball player, Mark McGwire.

I'll start first with Mark McGwire. I've believed for years that Mark has used steroids. Anyone care to remember the "Bash Brothers"? C'mon Son, you knew Mark was juicin' way back in the late-80's and into the '90s.

Senator Harry Reid said what he said, and while people will be upset and call for the man to be raked over a pit of hot coals, he said what many Americans have said, will say or thought. Race is always going to be relevant in this world.

Shoot, I know some Blacks (Yes, I do use the term Black in this day and age) who, if you asked them to honestly comment about President Barack Obama, would have some more poignant words to describe our 44th President.

So in 2010, we have to do better and know that our differences make the world better.

Common Sense pt.2

Not knowing when I wrote the post, "Common Sense isn't so Common",
yesterday that today would be 234-years after Thomas Paine anonymously
published the pamphlet, "Common Sense".

Maybe we can give each City Councilor a copy of Paine's pamphlet to
keep on hand during Council meetings?
