100 Miles & Runnin'

To think that Barack Obama has been the President of the United States for 12-days is overwhelming and I still smile a Kool-Aid smile everytime I hear Young Jeezy, Jay-Z and Nas's remix for My President. Some of the lyrics are R.A.W., but they still ring true from an artistic stand point.

When one stops and thinks of the mess President Obama and Vice President Biden have inherited, the song "100 Miles & Runnin'" by N.W.A., again, from an artistic standpoint, there's no denying how instrumental N.W.A. was in the rap game; also their music struck a nerve within me as a youth and it still does today as an adult, comes to mind.

There's alot of work to be done and it does seem like there's a new bootstrapping mentality that's becoming contagious. Shoot, I'm just happy to see people that otherwise were happy wallowing in the belly of beast feel inspired to go to school, teach their children and get a job, even if it means, pardon the phrase, "shoveling shit for a time". It's time to "Get Busy" like Sean Paul and get to steppin'!

Libraries Bracing For More Cutbacks

Now that Gov. Deval Patrick has announced another round of deep budget cuts, public libraries statewide are expected to take a big financial hit. But many libraries are already hurting. Six years ago libraries throughout Massachusetts lost 25 percent of their state funding. Now they're about to get hit again, at a time when people need them more than ever.

Waiting to wait: DMV

Let the waiting game begin!

Also, I noticed that their clock is almost 5-minutes fast. I guess this is one way to 'rig' the system so their processing time doesn't show folks waiting for very long! I'm Snitchin'!!

Flat Screen TVs for Mass Prisons

utterli-image
How crazy is it that Massachusetts prisons are being outfitted with large flat screen televisions, many in time for this Sunday's Superbowl?

What a waste of money!!!

Embracing Technology: Pride Productions

In the new Millennium, it's great to see others embracing technology and using it to "teach" and inspire children to become involved citizens.

Take a look at this video channel by Pride Productions, a Worcester non-profit, that aims to empower children to stay in school or work towards their GED. Another goal of Pride Productions is to reduce the digital divide by showing young adults that the digital divide does not have to be so wide, no matter the persons background or position in life.

'Da Face' of Worcester pt. 2

When I initially wrote about the sour puss face that I often see on Mayor Lukes's faces back on June 25, 2008 (you can read it here.) I was contacted by a few residents that agreed with my observation and noticed 'da face too.

Well, I guess I'm not the only one that notices 'da face, because it appears that Governor Patrick, got 'da face at the recent Massachusetts Municipal Association meeting and had to go 'hard body' and call Mayor Lukes on the snicker a/k/a/ grimace a/k/a/ pucker that she hit the Governor with.

Check out this article on Daily Worcesteria that Scott Zoback posted yesterday.

Assaults: Crime doesn't pay

When times get tough and folks are struggling to put food on the table
and keep the lights on, so to speak, there is a direct correlation to
the increase in violence.

In the town of Caribou, Maine, which is best known for having over 5-
feet of snow, has seen a rash of assaults among teenagers, not for
iPods or cellphones, but sneakers.

The sneakers of choice are the Nike Air Force 1 low sneakers.

With their multiple colors and supposed street credibility, Air Force
1s a/k/a/ Uptowns or 1s,
have teenagers from throughout the small town
fighting one another and leaving battle scars.

Sneaker aficionados know how popular the Bruce Kilgore-designed Air
Force 1s are, but it's still unknown why a sneaker that was initially
released in 1982, a basketball sneaker nonetheless, is so popular
today with kids in the 'hood and the suburbs alike.

We, at OSD, know the pull of Air Force 1s and have seen some well
designed AF1s by the likes of DJ Clark Kent and Stash. But let's be
straight forward and to the kids of Caribou, ME and all over the
world, we have to state that you are too valuable and have too much to
loose to throw it all away over a pair of sneakers. Be smarter people
and if you can't afford the sneakers, get a job and save your money to
buy that fresh pair of 1s......you'll appreciate them that much more.

As always, keep your laces tied tightly, your tongue loose and walk
GOOD!!

Oh No, They Didn't?!!!!!!

First Lady Michelle Obama is not playing around when it comes to her girls. She’s reportedly upset with the Beanie Baby company for making these “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” dolls. Through her spokesperson, she released a statement calling them “inappropriate”.

Ty (the company that manufacturers the Beanie Babies) says these dolls have nothing to do with the First Daughters and people are misunderstanding them to be dolls modeled after Sasha and Malia Obama. Even though the spokeswoman for the company originally told Crain.com that the dolls were designed with he Obama girls in mind. Now she’s retracting it.

The dolls hit shelves right before President Obama's Inauguration this month.
