Wormtown Fleet: Lake Avenue

It's been some 10-years that someone showed me a brilliant cut-through to get to Lincoln Street without getting on the highway.  Finding little 'shortcuts' like this are what make living in a town or city alot of fun and, at the same time, frustrating.

The pluses are too numerous to mention and I won't bore you with the details.

The minuses are as follows:
  •  Whoever decided to install a stop light on this single lane road, in either direction, is a (you fill in the blank).
  • The people that live along this stretch of road are probably tired of cars treating this road as their own person drag strip.
  • The people that live along this stretch of road are probably sick and tired of the plethora of cars that stop at the light and are blaring their music.
So, the next time your 'cutting through' on Lake Avenue please be mindful of the residents that live there and turn down your Whitesnake.  Thank you!

BTS: Back To School

For the thousands of students that are starting school today, the best word of advice that I can offer is, "Don't let your mind hold you back" and "The words can't, won't and don't should be very limited words in your vocabulary."

Growing up with a parent that was a teacher, I always got the "back to school speech", which set the table for the school year and had me confirm what my number one priority was: Education and having fun while learning.  True, it's a simple concept to live by and it certainly worked.

As the kiddies are hitting the streets and the yellow buses, long and short, are making their way around the City today and the County, I want to remind folks to slow down, pay attention, get off the cellphone and if you're late, just chalk it up as you're going to be late because you couldn't get your act together.  Hey, it's a simple concept and good words to live by, right?

Here's to a GREAT school year!

St. John, Virgin Islands after Hurricane Earl

Hurricane Earl hit the US Virgin Islands and things are quickly getting back to 'normal'.

The territory-wide curfew was lifted at 9 am and ferry boat service between St. Thomas and St. John has resumed.

Here's an account from some good folks on St.John:

Hip Hop lives in Worcester

Worcester is not a hot-bed for Hip Hop; let me repeat that, Worcester is NOT a hot-bed for Hip Hop, but let me tell you that there are some dope emcees in Worcester who don't have the spotlight shined on them enough or at all.

I grew-up in the '80s, so that means that I saw and lived Hip Hop everyday, even though it was on the island of St. Thomas or St. John.  Hip Hop was and will always be universal and when we celebrated it's 37th Birthday on August 11th, I realize that even more than ever, Hip Hop is alive and well in Worcester.

Now, I'm not going to pretend to know all the MCs that call the City of Worcester or Worcester County their home, but allow me to highlight a few females and males that are adding to the circle and sharpening their craft.

Nyne West

C.O.D. "Basketball Money"

BBoyd Ft. E-Knock "I'm Nice" (Directed by Kaz Gamble) (Follow That Boy Boyd on Twitter)

Baige O'Bannon (Follow Baige on Twitter)
Check out Baige's website for his "Nice To Meet You" mix-CD along with a new track "2 Eazy", where Baige lays down an ill flow over Vado's "Speaking in Tungs" beat.

Be on the look out for Baige's first music video very soon!

Endo Ft. Jusslu (Directed & Edited by Nicholas Black)

Again, I don't know all the emcees that call Worcester County their home, but I'm confident that with this sampling, Hip Hop is alive and well in Worcester County!

Hurricane Earl

I've been up and watching The Weather Channel to find out what's going on with Hurricane Earl as the category 2 hurricane is making its way through the Caribbean.

Having experienced a number of hurricanes while living in the Virgin Islands, this time of the year always makes me a bit apprehensive, and Hurricane Earl, which hit the Leeward Islands yesterday, is now bearing down on St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John (aka Love City).

So far, the islands have lost electricity and the winds are howling around 105 mph.

Praying.
