Pressed Down

This is a sad day when a local business, that's been around for 104-years, closes their doors.

Saltus Press

Now when it come to making money, I'm a printing press and when it come to being trill.......I'm the litmus test. - Bun B. "Put It Down" from the album Trill O.G

Penn on Jean

Folks can and will say what they like about Sean Penn, but in this case, I have to agree with him and his skepticism of Wyclef Jean declaring that he's going to run to become the Haitian President.

"I see in Wyclef Jean somebody who could well have been influenced by the promise of support of companies. I think Haiti is clearly vulnerable ... There is a history of American interests coming in and underpaying people. This is a culture of one to two dollars a day, that they were making."

Internet Sales Tax

The specter of an online sales tax doesn't seem to be willing to go away. One of the advantages of Internet shopping is the absence of any sales tax which can amount to a decent cost saving on the average purchase, but this bargain for consumers represents lost income for States across the US that are battling to close the gap on ever-increasing budget deficits.

It is not surprising then that Democratic Congressman Bill Delahunt of Massachusetts once again raised the online sales tax bogey. He first brought the bill for consideration in 2007, but now many in Washington think that he may have better luck getting it passed in 2010. For shoppers that have gotten used to saving 5 to 10 percent by shopping at websites like Amazon, they might be getting a rude awakening.

Shame Game in PA

If you lived in Reading, PA and owned property that you didn't take care of or were an absentee slum-lord, then you might just be on Mayor Tom McMahon's "Wall of Shame"-- blighted properties that he said would be torn down unless owners fix them up. The property owners' names are posted along with pictures and addresses.

Homebase

Whenever I travel, it usually takes until the 3rd day for me to start wondering if there's anything taking place in Worcester that I'm "missing".  Well, for the first time that didn't happen, and I wonder if it has anything to do with getting older and wiser?  I have to think the answer to that question is yes.
