Starting Summtin': Gary Rosen

I read former City Councilor Gary Rosen's opinion piece in Worcester Magazine, and I immediately thought that he must have written it months in advance because he was 'off' on a number of issues.

Well, I guess I wasn't the only one that thought this because Virginia Ryan, co-chair for the Coalition of Worcester Retirees, wrote a response and it was published by Worcester Magazine. (Hat-tip WoMag.)

After all, it is June, and we can look forward to a preliminary election in September, but we know that the voter's attention is on anything but the upcoming City Council elections.

With the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup, and the kiddies about to get out of school for the summer, the average person isn't thinking about this election cycle. But, we can rest assured that after the 4th of July, things will begin to heat up.

So, I wonder if Gary Rosen knew he'd be starting summtin' when he penned his missive? I'm sure he did......he is a teacher after all!

Tennis History (Worcester Tennis Club)

Last week, I offered to take pictures of my friend, Virginia Ryan, whose running for City Councilor in District 1, for her campaign.

You see, at least twice a week, Virginia, a co-chair for the Coalition of Worcester Retirees, plays tennis at the Worcester Tennis Club.

I'll be the first to admit that I'd heard about the Worcester Tennis Club, but never visited it because I didn't have a need to.

Well, I've come to find out that the WTC, which has been in existence since 1907, was one of the many tennis courts that an uncle of mine has played tennis at with a number of now-well-known lawyers, who spent their undergraduate years in Worcester.

I must say that I miss playing the game of tennis.

It was the first sport that I was introduced to by my parents, and by learning the game and playing the game, my love for sneakers began.

You see, my father was a big fan of adidas Stan Smith sneakers, and because he wore a size 14 shoe, whenever he found adidas Stan Smith sneakers in a size 14, he'd buy them all. (The saying that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree is true.)

So, I guess it's time for me to dust off my racket, loosen up my shoulders and get back on the court and attempt to play the game that I enjoy watching, but haven't played in the past 20-years.

I'll keep you posted. (Pray for me.)

Sneaker Comedy

Since the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA Championship on Sunday, my friend, REE, decided to have a little fun and poke fun at Miami Heat's LeBron James and his Nike sneakers.
