Good People, Great Food & New Friends

I can't and certainly don't consider myself a pizza connoisseur, but when I taste great pizza I know it!

Earlier this week, my Alma mater, Bryant College, now Bryant University (goes to show you how long it's been since I graduated), held a alumni social at the Armsby Abbey, which just so happens to be owned by another Bryant alumna, Sherri Sadowski.

I had a good time meeting some fellow alums, sharing stories from "back in the day" and some old stories that will live in infamy ( I will invoke my 5th Amendment rights).

So as the Bryant social came to a close, I decided to hang out for a bit longer and have some drinks and kick-it with my new found friend, Chris, who's a California transplant who knows a thing or two about sneakers (Hmmmm....a cat who speaks my language).

I wanted something to eat and had a craving for some pizza, to which Chris recommends the Thai Pizza that sounded great on the menu but to taste it.....there aren't enough words to describe it!

You have to taste it for yourself and tell me it's not the BEST pizza you've ever had! (I dare you and if you don't like it, email me at WorcesterIsMAJOR@gmail.com and I'll pay for the pizza! The pizza & only the pizza.)

So, there you have it! The offer is on the table and I am a man of my word!

Cheers!

Keepin' It Real: Too Far Gone

When I read this story about a Chicago kid being shot and telling police that he won't say who his murderer is, I shook my head.

This is the sort of thing that is happening in major cities and smaller towns, alike, all over the United States, and kids are taking it to some new extremes.

Right here in Worcester, I've heard from students that I mentor in a work readiness program, the the code of the streets is "No Snitchin' Allowed".

I'm nit sure where this "not cooperating with police" started or why the feelings have been heightened over the years, but this is a problem and I wonder what law enforcement in Chicago, New York City, Boston, Los Angeles and Philadelphia are doing to combat this thinking?

Yes, some will say that the "village mentality" is needed and that there is more community policing taking place, but, even then, there are folks that fear saying something to the police because," I have to live HERE!"

Retriever

This young man's job is to gather the shopping carts that we leave
scattered throughout the parking lot.

I guess folks take the shopping carts to the bus station, accross the
street from the Price Chopper, on Greenwood Street.

I wonder how many times a day he or someone has to do this?

Underground Hip Hop

Worcester has been involved with the “underground” for many years. Some say that the first “underground” movement was The Underground Railroad, which is hard to trace Worcester’s involvement in the movement, but I’ve read and heard stories of Worcester being a resting place for slaves on their way to Canada.

Well, the other “underground” movement that has been a part of the City for a long time is music- specifically Hip Hop.

On Saturday (17th) Canal Nightclub played host to Boot Camp Click emcee, Sean Price, who brought some Brownsville, Brooklyn (NYC) funk to Worcester and had heads spinning and nodding in agreement that Hip Hop is alive and well, thanks to Sean P.
