Local Heroes: Dr. David Kim (2nd Annual Britney Gengel Intl. Humanitarian Award Recipient)

As a continuation of the series entitled "Local Heroes", today we learn about Dr. David Kim, a plastic surgeon at Fallon Clinic, is the recipient of the 2nd Annual Britney Gengel International Humanitarian Award.

Through his work with Surgicorps, Dr. Kim has been able to help people in various parts of the world look better, and, more importantly, feel better about themselves, through plastic surgery operations.


On March 24, 2011, the American Red Cross of Central and Western Massachusetts recognized a number of people in the community as "local heroes".  The list included:
  • Dr. Michael Hirsh and Dr. Mariann Manno of UMASS Memorial Medical Center Injury Prevention Office.
  • Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 Ramp Gang.
  • Brenda Jenkins
  • Joseph Deranamie
  • The Belmont Street Baptist Church Haiti Team

Local Heroes: Belmont Street Baptist Church Haiti Team

As a continuation of the series entitled "Local Heroes", today we learn about the Belmont Street Baptist Church Haiti Team, where 6-members were highlighted: Pastor George Kohl, Nicole Farrington, Brenda Gordon, Chris Sales, Esther Stidham, and Glenn Williams.

The Belmont Street Baptist Church Haiti Team traveled to Haiti to work and provide food and education to the people of Maissade, Haiti.

The trip to Haiti has been humbling and encouraging to see that the people of Haiti haven't given up and have vowed to rebuild.

On March 24, 2011, the American Red Cross of Central and Western Massachusetts recognized a number of people in the community as "local heroes".  The list included:

Local Heroes: UMASS Injury Prevention Team

As a continuation of the series entitled "Local Heroes", today we learn about the UMASS Injury Prevention Team was honored, but, particularly, 4 individuals were highlighted: Dr. Michael Hirsch, Dr. Mariann Manno, Esther Borer, and Allison Rook.

The UMASS Injury Prevention Team focuses on caring for children as well as educating children on such topics and safe pedestrian, bicycle and car safety, teenager smart driving rules, and overall safety to prevent falls or accidents.

On March 24, 2011, the American Red Cross of Central and Western Massachusetts recognized a number of people in the community as "local heroes".  The list included:

Here are a couple pictures of this morning's sunrise. 

After seeing the sunrise on Monday, that I thought was just absolutely gorgeous, I've been looking forward to some more beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Local Heroes: Joseph Deranamie (Mission to Liberia)

As a continuation of the series entitled "Local Heroes", today we learn about Joseph Deranamie of Mission to Liberia, an organization that provides shoes, clothing, books and medical supplies for war-torn Liberia.

Local Heroes: Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 Ramp Gang

As a continuation of the series entitled "Local Heroes", today we learn about the Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 Ramp Gang that builds wheelchair and similar type ramps for people throughout New England.

On March 24, 2011, the American Red Cross of Central and Western Massachusetts recognized a number of people in the community as "local heroes".  The list included:

I've been meaning to post these pictures of this morning's sunrise since 6:30 a.m., but in typical 'Monday Madness', not to be confused with 'March Madness', I got swamped.
This sunrise serves as a reminder that God is THE best artist!

Local Heroes: Brenda Jenkins (Mosaic Cultural Complex & YMCA)

 On March 24, 2011, the American Red Cross of Central and Western Massachusetts recognized a number of people in the community as "local heroes".  The list included:
  • Dr. Michael Hirsh and Dr. Mariann Manno of UMASS Memorial Medical Center Injury Prevention Office.
  • Worcester Firefighters Local 1009 Ramp Gang.
  • Brenda Jenkins
  • Joseph Deranamie
  • The Belmont Street Baptist Church Haiti Team
All of the people involved have contributed to the betterment of human beings, and encouraging, supporting and assisting those in need.

One particular person that was honored was Brenda Jenkins, the co-founder of the Mosaic Cultural Complex, and a community leader at the YMCA of Worcester.

Brenda's organization works with women and men that have been affiliated with gangs, drugs and, overall, trying to get their life together and contribute to the richness that we call the Worcester Community.
