No. 4477: It's time to Enforce it!

From Drop Box
Living in a city such as Worcester causes folks such as myself, who have lived in various parts of New England and the world, to shake my head in amazement and oftentimes will induce a chuckle or smile that warrants an "odd" look by those standing near me. Well, from this point going forward, I will no longer chuckle, smile or shake my head! There I wrote it and I'm sticking to it.

You may be asking, what's got Dee in such a fuss? Well, it's very easy and it's all the darn folks that drive around the City of Worcester with their cellphone plastered to their ear!!

Earlier today, while driving through the down pour on Route 20, I was almost side- swiped by a tobacco chewing, confederate flag sticker affixed to the rear bumper driving, while talking on a cellphone driver who couldn't slow down or get off the cellphone long enough to properly check their side-view mirrors. Thank goodness Mother taught me to be a "defensive" driver and to, "watch out for all the horrible drivers that happen to be on the road." Mother is always right.

If you're not familiar with No. 4477, the law was passed by the House on January 23, 2008, and in a nutshell the law regulates the use of certain communication devices while operating a motor vehicle.

While the law may have garnered attention due to dissuading teenagers from texting while driving, by being hit with fines, it does ban the use of hand-held cellphones and other electronic devices.

So, the next time you see me coming and you're talking on your cellphone, do like the New Yorkers do and quickly put away the cellphone!

Drugs: "Strawberry Quick"

There is a new drug known as 'strawberry quick'.

It's being reported in the Caribbean and in the United States in the southern region, that we all need to be aware of.

There is a type of crystal meth (methamphetamine) going around that looks like strawberry pop rocks (the candy that sizzles and 'pops' in your mouth). It also smells like strawberry and it is being handed out to kids in school yards. They are calling it strawberry meth or strawberry quick.

Kids are ingesting this thinking that it is candy and being rushed off to the hospital in dire condition. It also comes in chocolate, peanut butter, cola, cherry, grape and orange.

Please instruct your children not to accept candy from strangers and even not to accept candy that looks like this from a friend (who may have been given it and believe it is candy) and to take
any that they may have to a teacher, principal, etc. immediately.

Please help spread the word to as many people as you can (even if they don't have kids) so that we can raise awareness and hopefully prevent any tragedies from occurring.

Rosary Trial: What a waste of Money

In the "Rosary" case it's amazing that our federal government would even waste our money to try this case, but the hearing did take place and the defendants were fined $250.00.

Now, I don't know about you, but don't you think it cost more than $250.00 for the police officers that had to drive to the Federal Court House to arrest them, the paper work and electricity used to prepare the court documents and the "time" it cost Judge Timothy S. Hillma to preside over the case? I'm not advocating for charging the defendants more money, I'm just pointing out the waste of money that it was to even try this case. The folks were simply...praying.

Thank you to Pie and Coffee for the video footage.

Movie: Notorious

While this may have little to do with the City of Worcester, the Notorious BIG a.k.a. Biggie Smalls a.k.a. Biggie (real name: Christopher Wallace) did perform at The Palladium back in the day.

The Notorious movie is one that many Hip Hop heads have been waiting for as it documents the life and times of one of the hip-hop world’s greatest entertainers. Before an untimely death, Biggie managed to vault himself to stardom and firmly cement himself in the history of the hip-hop world. The teaser for Notorious has been released with an anticipated debut set for January 16th, 2009. Rapper Gravy is cast the lead as Biggie Smalls with Derek Luke and Anthony Mackie as Sean Combs and Tupac Shakur respectively.

Clinton & Rock

President Bill appeared on The View yesterday and it's was very obvious that they placed President Clinton and Elizabeth Hasselbeck as far away from each other, on purpose.

For those not familiar with Elizabeth Hasselbeck, she was blasted in the news earlier this month for stating the difference between Presidential hopeful John McCain's wife, Cindy, and Presidential hopeful Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, is that Cindy "has nothing to hide" when speaking about the list of topics that were "out-of-bounds" and not to be asked by Elizabeth and co-hosts when Mrs. Obama appeared on The view.

Here's the video of Clinton talking about Senator Clinton and her desire not to be the Vice President nominee:

And here's Chris Rock's take on what President Clinton had to say when Rock appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman:

Learning: It never ends

So, I received and email from a friend of mine today who happened to be forwarding a prayer that he received from someone that is incarcerated.

The prayer arrived in my inbox at the right time, but what my buddy let me know is that the BOP has set-up a system that allows some inmates in some prisons to receive emails.

Yes, the emails can only contain text, no attachments are allowed, but I thought that it was pretty interesting that someone convicted of a crime can have contact with their family still through electronic mail.

Read more about the system at the Bureau of Prisons website.
