Time to quit

If there were ever a time to quit smoking, that time is now. With the
cost of a pack of cigarettes hovering around the $7 mark, it's amazing
to see hard earned or borrowed or begged money go up in smoke.

The health implications are well documented and I know from personal
experience that attempting to play basketball having smoke for a few
months is not a good look.

There are many ways to quit, but the key is wanting to quit and
believing that it's an addiction that can be broken.

Politics: Obama Negotiating with Iraq?

While the Bush administration was negotiating an agreement to keep the U.S. military in Iraq, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to convince Iraqi leaders that the president shouldn’t be allowed to do so without congressional approval, reports the Washington Times.

Iraqi leaders say Obama urged them to delay an agreement with Bush until next year. The Obama campaign denies the claim, but admits a conversation did occur.

In the conversation, the senator urged Iraq to delay the [memorandum of understanding] between Iraq and the United States until the new administration was in place,” said Samir Sumaidaie, Iraq’s ambassador to the United States.

He said Mr. Zebari replied that any such agreement would not bind a new administration. “The new administration will have a free hand to opt out,” he said the foreign minister told Mr. Obama.

A response was issued by Obama's camp in response to the NY Post's article, that ran last month.

Water upgrade

On Wednesday, in the mail, we received a postcard from DPW c/o Mass Installation,Inc., that stated that we needed to schedule an appointment so that they may install a radio frequency(RF) meter reading system.

The installation guy, Bob, was a nice gentleman, and worked amazingly fast.

While talking, I asked him what the RF does? He told me that the RF
send a signal to a "special box" that a meter reader can have in their
car and not even have to get out, as was typically done in the past.

Bob continued to tell me that on any given day, a meter reader can
physically read about 325 meters in a day. With the new RF installed,
the preliminary testing had one meter reader capture information on
12,000 meters in an 8-hour workday.

I thought the RF was amazing and then my mind turned to the meter
readers that may be laid off because with the RFs, there may be too
many of them on the payroll. We'll have to wait and see if the meter
readers are the next picket on a major intersection.

So, if you received a green postcard, don't throw it away! Read it
and call 1-800-933-1360 between 8 am & 5 pm Monday through Friday.
