In the Dark

I had to run some errands this morning & now I'm settling in to get some work done & return a bunch of calls.

Earlier, I was on Grafton Street, near the Stop & Shop with the gas station, and noticed that the stop lights weren't on.

After looking at the Friendly's, McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts (read: heart-attack row), I realized that the electricity must have been off. It was and many of the businesses in the area were at a standstill.

Now, having grown up in the Virgin Islands where the Water & Power Authority (locally known as WAPA), was notorious for running into issues, operating without electricity was sometimes a daily event. You just went about your business and did what you could.

I wonder how many folks are 'speaking in tongues' because they can't watch their favorite day-time television show or get on the Internet and send emails or read the news?

Don't Argue with Fools, because.....

My 90-year-old Grandmother is famous for saying, "Don't argue with fools because from a distance folks can't tell who is who."  Those words echo in my mind everyday, because I am confident to say that I interact and run into my share of fools who want to do nothing more than make themselves feel better by attempting to drag me down into the belly of the beast.  Well, I haven't fallen for it for more than 3-decades, so I'm not going to start now.

Earlier this morning, while navigating my way through Worcester, I saw a woman, who was so enamored with her cellphone that she almost hit a kid crossing the street, in a crosswalk nonetheless.

When she saw the kid in the crosswalk, she slammed on the brakes, dropped her cellphone, but bent down to pick it up from the driver's side floor and continue her conversation, like nothing had happened.

Then, 15-minutes later, I saw a young man driving a Lexus GS300, cut off a driver on Providence Street to turn into the X-Tra Mart. (If he did see the oncoming car, he didn't care and decided that where he was going was more important than the next woman or man.)

While I could have played the fool and shouted out the window, I chose not to.  Why? Well, what good would have come from it?  Again, from a distance.....it's hard to tell who is who.

Drive safely!

Sports: Boston Celtics Media Day

The Boston Celtics held their "Media Day" yesterday in Waltham, MA, and from the looks of it, the team is refreshed and ready to begin their march towards banner number 18 for the 2010-2011 NBA Season.

With the "Big Shamrock" and a bevy of back-up point guards to give Rajon Rondo a breather from time-to-time, I'm looking forward to the Celtics' season opener against the recently dubbed "Young Money Crew"- Dwyane Wade, LeBron James & Chris Bosh- of the Miami Heat on October 26 at the TD Garden.

CSX Trash, 4Rilla & Kate Toomey (A Twitter Story)

I was reading some posts on Twitter late last night, and I stumbled upon a Twitter conversation between 4Rilla and City Councilor Kate Toomey regarding the trash that exists near the CSX train tracks.

I find it interesting and refreshing, at the same time, that while we have this great piece of technology called the Internet, the conversation took place on the Net and easily read by the "followers" of 4Rilla and Kate Toomey on Twitter to read.

The back-and-forth conversation was cordial and when Kate Toomey pressed 4Rilla for more information regarding, "Where is the trash located? What is the address?", 4Rilla replied and then attached the following link to pictures of said trash, which he posted on Flickr.

Don't you just love technology?
