Coalition of Worcester Retirees: Medicare Part B

Virginia Ryan and the Coalition of Worcester Retirees (COWR) are making sure that they're "getting in the door" at the first City Council meeting for 2011, taking place on Tuesday, Jan. 4th.

COALITION OF WORCESTER RETIREES

We filed the petition below that is on the January 4, 2011 Worcester City Council that begins at 7 PM.  The council meets on the third floor of Worcester City Hall.  If you would like to speak to this issue, please let me know.

7f.    Virginia Ryan request the City of Worcester pay for the difference in cost of Part B Medicare for 2010 and 2011 for City retirees not receiving Social Security checks.

Democratic Convention

After record breaking temperatures on Wednesday, things are heating up in Massachusetts once again, but this time, it's because of the Massachusetts Democratic Convention taking place in Worcester.

The MADemCon is taking over the DCU Center (a.k.a. The Worcester Centrum) next Friday (6/4) and Saturday (6/5).

And while the MARepCon, which took place in April, was low-browed, I do expect there to be alot of folks protesting various issues:
  • The Tea Party
  • The Coalition of Worcester Retirees
  • Anyone against Governor Deval Patrick
I wonder if this will bring the typical drama that any convention brings to any city?

Change with a capital "C": Blue Cross & Blue Shield CEO Waves Goodbye

Cleve Killingsworth, the CEO and Chairman of the Board for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts, abruptly resigned today.

I guess the pull to write a few books and work on healthcare reform from the "inside" was too strong to keep him in Massachusetts.

Maybe now, City Manager Michael O'Brien and Crew can address Virginia Ryan and the Coalition of Worcester Retirees' Section 19?

Based upon this article, Michael O'Brien isn't budging one bit.

The Coalition of Worcester Retirees is still PUSHING hard for CHANGE.

UPDATE ON SECTION 19

The presentation on Section 19 to the City Council is in the works according to Cheryl Delsignore, of the EAW (teacher’s union) and the unions will be splitting the cost of the presentation to the City Council. Apparently Cheryl is awaiting a survey from the city that she must have for the presentation by Boston Benefits Partners (BBP). Our coalition will be making a small donation due to the generosity of those of you who sent me checks to pay for the TV ad.

You will be notified when this presentation will occur and hopefully you will recognize the need to be present at this presentation. Actually bring your friends and family members. It’s what the city council understands best. A CROWD.

Meet Joe O'Brien (11/30/09)
